Where did it go?

Posted in Today at 11:28 pm by artistry

I’ve had a busy week, it seems, yet I can’t point to much in the way of accomplishment. I did do some work on the Xisti site and launched the new dynamic site even though many of the pages are still in HTML format. It is going to take some work to get them all changed over and I will need a second style sheet for some parts of the site. Doing all this is a good lesson as to what is good about pages built to use CSS. I also made a couple of new CSS templates to use as samples for possible web work.

Today we celebrated Mom’s 86th birthday with a general gathering of the clan. She loved it!

If you ask me …

Posted in Literature, Today at 10:45 pm by artistry

If you are perhaps thinking of getting the last installment of the Left Behind series, Kingdom Come, and you ask for my advice, I would definitely not recommend it. I read all 12 books of the original series and noted that the quality deteriorated significantly as the series went on and more and more spin off products were being created. But it was still interesting enough that I stuck with it. I’m normally one who finishes what she starts.

I did, however, resist reading any of the three prequels that came out over the last year or two. And I really didn’t plan to get Kingdom Come cause I figured there wasn’t much to say. I should have listened to my own advice, but there I was wanting some fiction to read and unable to find anything that appealed …

My rating for this one … too little story, too much questionable theology and two authors who should have stopped when they were ahead.

Tonight I installed a new plug-in to display the ESV Bible Verse of the day on my blog. I love it when I am able to do something new and it works! To give credit where credit is due, the guy who wrote the code also wrote great instructions for installing and configuring the plug-in. But I’m the one who installed the plug-in and edited the CSS to make it display. Yay, me! :-P

The Nigerian letter

Posted in Faith, Today, Worldview at 9:19 am by artistry

Like everyone else, I have received this scam e-mail in a variety of forms. BUT, today I received it again and I am sick at heart. Because it was sent to my church and the author claimed they wanted to donate $4.2 million to my church and signed the letter “Yours in Christ”. It had all the hallmarks of the scam …. I was to send contact info, etc. Even though I know people are greedy and evil, this struck me as worse than the rest.

I don’t know why I am surprised though. All I have to do to see people trying to fleece the sheep is to turn on television. There are enough charlatans on television, both commercial and cable channels, to make me nauseous. I pray for protection for all the churches that received this letter. Of course, it was sent under blind addressees, so I can’t warn anyone other than here. I am web savvy enough to have recognized the fraud within the first few words. I pray that other recipients are as well.

Burning Issues

Posted in Today, Worldview at 1:51 pm by artistry

Well, now we know who’s the daddy and the fate of Imus … what ever will the news hounds have to talk about? While I deplore the comments by Imus as much as anyone, I think the focus that has been thrown on this issue as well as the continuing Anna Nicole saga says something about the state of society … and what it says is not good.

I think it is hypocrisy of the highest measure that Jesse Jackson and others are marching and protesting and taking the high moral ground when they so seldom display it when the cameras aren’t rolling. For that matter, I am still waiting to hear of an apology from Jesse Jackson for the Trinity incident and/or the Duke incident. I caught a little of the commentary on CNN this am and had to turn it off in disgust.

Burning issues to me are the number of children going to bed hungry and the number of families who are homeless and the number of people who will die needlessly for lack of proper sanitary facilities and decent medical care. But that’s just my POV.

I need to stop watching/listening

Posted in Today at 4:15 pm by artistry

If I never turned on the television, I wouldn’t hear/see things that drive me to frustration. Today’s stupider than stupid commentary was a piece about the Easter bunny, who, according to CNN derived from pagan mythology but was adopted by Christians as a symbol of Easter. How do they present these pieces with a straight face? What? There’s not enough bad news in the world so they have to resort to filling air time with this kind of thing?

Relative to my original post and responses, here is an interesting article that Steve shared with me.

Even the music on iTunes is appropriate to this conversation … The Real Jesus by downhere … :-D … I have iTunes set to play a random mix and this is what came up as I was starting this post.

Seven Days in April

Posted in Faith, Literature, Today at 11:22 am by artistry

So I have been silent for the last week and my son took me to task on it. Like I told him, I’ve been busy. He didn’t buy it. :-D

Last night we had Good Friday services at Common Ground. It was a multi-media presentation of the Places of the Passion. I worked on the presentation, which is what kept me so busy. Over the past several days I have watched several movies and read a lot to get material for use in our presentation. I also got to listen to lots of good music to decide what should be used.

Also, I have to report that my son made me cry. Rotten child, you might think. I will defend him, cause he was only the final cause. Having been immersed in the events of the crucifixion for days, I was ready to cry and then I read his piece on Good Friday. A good cry is sometimes just what we need. In any case, the sorrow I was feeling last night has been swallowed up in anticipation of our Resurrection celebration tomorrow. We have a breakfast at 9 am and the celebration service starts at 10:30. I am ready to celebrate!

I’m within a few pages (about 80) of finishing “Paul, Missionary Theologian”. I have really enjoyed reading this book and it has raised questions and answered a few as well. Responding to Rachel’s comment made me think about a book I want to read next. I went to search my Reading List shelf and couldn’t find it. I was afraid I had ordered it for Steve and didn’t get one for myself. A quick search of my order history laid that fear to rest. So I am going to start “Knowing Jesus Through the Old Testament” by Christopher Wright next. That works well with my current focus on the OT in my daily reading.
