No Nanowrimo for me this year. I started out with great intentions and a good story that was aching to be written. I followed the rules and waited until November 1 to start, but got shot down immediately by pressing family concerns. My sister was diagnosed with cancer and had surgery early in November. The prognosis was not encouraging at first, but when I last talked with her she felt that there were treatment options and she was hopeful. She died 2 days later. It hasn’t been a good month.

It was great! For a change, we had more than enough pie for everyone to get a huge sugar buzz. My pecan pie was a hit and only one piece was left. We had three pies that we didn’t even cut which were put in the refrigerator to serve at Sunday services. It was a wonderful time of worship and thanksgiving with great fellowship afterward.
We started Thanksgiving day with an Indiana farm style breakfast … sausage gravy and biscuits and scrambled eggs. This was so those who had other family obligations could spend some time with us. As it turned out, I just had a house full of people all day, which was good because I also had lots of help.
My turkey wasn’t as pretty as Scott’s, but it was a hit. (You can see Scott’s work of art here).
I had giblet stuffing and wild rice dressing as well as sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, green beans and gravy. And lots of brown & serve rolls. I also had cranberry sauce that I completely forgot to put out, but no one noticed. And pie, of course.
Both of my sons earned their living in restaurants while going to school, which means they are well qualified in the kitchen and they were a tremendous help. I couldn’t have pulled it off without them.

It was fun, but exhausting.

Tomorrow is pie day. I am making my famous pumpkin pie, plus two Southern Pecan and one deep dish apple pie. I should have just enough. We will be 14 for Thanksgiving dinner. It will be wonderful to have all my kids and grandkids here. And Mom and Dad as well. I’m looking forward to it.
Tomorrow evening we will be going to church for the Thanksgiving service and Pie Off … that is a sharing of pies. Good thing I will have plenty of pie to share!

So I posted at the end of October about the challenges (nice word!) I was having with my computer since selling my MacMini. Of course, I hear lots of “I told you so”. Anyway, I was going to install my OS to my new 250 GB drive and transition everything. I ran into difficulty after difficulty. Can we say frustrated?
Apparent hardware failures, software failures … you name it and it was happening here. I got a new power supply and that didn’t help. I finally replaced the motherboard and processor as well. Then all that was left was software. I won’t talk about the failures there. Ugh!
I always prefer the cautious route, but David, who used to change his OS at the blink of an eye is far more audacious. He said if I would be patient, he would help me … heh! That’s easier said than done. While I was gone yesterday, he reinstalled my OS and got it woking and working well! My child (adult) is a techno whiz! So I spent last night installing programs. Now I have them all back. I have two hard drives totaling 410 GB and I am happy. I deleted everything off the Maxtor drive and we will pull it one of these days.
There’s other drama going on in my life, but at least this one issue is resolved.

We got up early and were out of the house shortly after 7 am. The wait at the polling place was minimal. We had both registered in advance, so we waltzed right into the line, which was just long enough for us to read through the ballot and not long enough to be frustrating. There was a huge line of traffic pulling in just as we left, so our timing was perfect.
Watched results last night until it became apparent we weren’t going to know about the Senate right away. It was amusing to see that our Senate race was called within seconds of the polls closing. The final results showed an overwhelming majority for Klobuchar. I don’t think they have certified the results for governor yet. It is really close and not all votes have been counted. A nail-biter …
I heard a lot of optimism last night and was pleased that there was so little gloating. I’m waiting to see if the Democrats can produce and operate without the antagonism that has so characterized Congress over the last six years. In 1994 the so-called “Contract with America” was so quickly broken and became a travesty. I expect better from the Democrats and they should take a lesson from yesterdays election. We have little tolerance left for political corruption.
I’m pleased with the Lieberman victory. We need moderates in Congress. We need voices that tell the truth, even when it is unpalatable. We don’t need another senator who gets elected on the basis of a single issue and his family fortune. Want validation? Here in MN we had such a senator and he holds the distinction of being called the worst senator ever … I’d rather that honor didn’t reside in my state, but Connecticut can consider themselves fortunate that it didn’t pass to them.

Did the Democrat/Republican quiz from Karen’s post at LJ … no surprise … I am 32% Democrat and 24% Republican … which means I am really what I always claimed to be … an Independent.
It’s a sad, sad thing when I am looking forward to election day with great anticipation because it means the end of the political ads.
The air smells like snow. No snow is predicted, we know the accuracy of most weather people … I wish *I* could be that accurate in my job.
