Wouldn’t you know … having made the commitment to stick with my Windows system and upgrade, I have run into difficulty. Something fried somewhere and I am now waiting for a new board and processor to arrive. And because the new board is SLI, I had to get a new video card also. Yes, I am frustrated and second guessing my decision. I know it will be a good upgrade and I will be happy, but first I have to contain myself until the new parts arrive and get installed. And this is the worst week for this to happen because I have a newsletter to get out and the data is on the computer that is down. Maybe, just maybe, I can persuade someone here in the house to loan me his external case so I can get the files off the drive. Hmmmmm …

“Republicans, while conceding they face a tough fight, are unwilling to concede the election.
“I think were going to maintain our majority in both houses,” Republican National Committee spokesman Danny Diaz says. “It’s going to be close, with a lot of races within the margin of error, but at the end of the day we maintain our majority and move on.” …” More
We would do well to remember some other words spoken in January 2001 by then majority leader Tom Delay … “We can do whatever we want”. It appears that what they wanted was to do nothing for the benefit of the nation, to rubber stamp the demands of an executive branch run amok and to indulge in corruption unparalleled in modern times. It makes one wonder what they plan to move on to.
Keep it in mind as you ponder your vote.

I don’t know why I was surprised. I guess I am ever the optimist. Or my cynicism hasn’t had enough exercise lately. In any case, I watched W’s press conference with growing dismay. I was shocked at the blatant solicitation of the whole discussion. I say solicitation because it is a nice way of saying pimping for votes. And it is appalling to think that the leader of our government and Commander in Chief of our armed forces would be so callous.
Now we are changing tactics? Is it because October has brought such horrendous loss of life in Iraq and the continuing jeopardy our troops face? Or is it because October has brought such abysmal ratings for the administration and put so many GOP candidates in jeopardy?
I say let’s get rid of those we can vote out of power and bring back accountability to our government.
It is not even realistic to talk about bringing the troops home at this point. If we learned anything from Vietnam, we should have learned this. As much as I dislike hearing W talk about staying the course, I think we need to do just that. We created the situation in Iraq. Whatever justification W can make for going into Iraq (and most of us think he cannot make any) he needs to finish what he started. He dare not leave the region in the lurch. And we have to see that as a nation. No matter how much we hate the position we find ourselves in, it will be worse if we abandon it. What is needed is new leadership from the top and enough troops on the ground to finish the job and do it decisively.
Get rid of Rumsfeld. If we don’t have any generals able to do the job, bring back Colin Powell and Norman Schwarzkopf and give them authority to do the job they know how to do. And learn a lesson from this debacle!

I woke up to the radio this am and they were talking about how they had to scrape windsheilds. Heavy frost, they said. Ha … that’s deluding yourself. That “heavy frost” was white precipitation, otherwise called snow. My neighbors brown roof was white, as was another neighbors gray roof. As was my back yard. The only good part was that it melted as soon as the sun came out. But one day, not far off, it will be heavier and it won’t go away.

Nanowrimo … I’d forgotten this madness until Karen reminded me. Wonder if Lynda is going to do this again? Has anyone heard from Lynda? Last year I said I would but another time. I have no excuse this year and am going to give it a shot.

I have a lot of thoughts running through my mind that will eventually end up as a new article for Xisti. The new index page is done and I really like it. I probably won’t change many of the other pages for now. It’s not like anyone knows they are there anyway!
I keep getting started and then stopping, mostly cause my periods of good concentration are limited due to the very effective pain pills I am taking every 4 hours.

No one could really deny that rank has its privileges. It’s even true in families. And sometimes I have to take myself to task for the enjoyment I get from those little things that only come with rank, or in this case, age. As Asher’s Nana, I get to be tickled at any indications that Asher’s daddy is going to suffer some payback for his own quirks as a child, things like being stubborn beyond belief. You could always tell when he was going to dig in his heels cause his expression would give him away. Kind of like this:

I tried to get a picture of the falling flakes, but they don’t show up in the air. This is what my patio looks like shortly after the aberration started. It’s wrong, I tell you!

Well the short answer is that I no longer have a Mac. I found it just too frustrating to deal with the problems with programs. David also made changes … he got a Power PC and is happy. I went back to my Windows box. With the money I got for the MacMini, I bought more Ram and a new hard drive for my Windows machine. That will bring me to 410 GB and 1.5 GB Ram. It’s plenty fast and capable.
It’s too bad because there were so many great features on the MacMini. I am glad I tried it. Now if I could use OS X on a PC, that would be the best of both worlds.

I’ve been listening to the coverage of the latest Washington scandal and I am really appalled. First, because the outrage seems directed not so much at what happened as it is to who knew and how long. What were they thinking to not take steps to oust that renegade sooner?
Never mind, I know the answer. They were protecting their majority in the house. Shame!
And even more disgusting is the letter that was released to the press claiming that this is a ploy by the Democrats to assail the majority in the house.
I have to say that the current ebb and flow of accusation and excuse is the best answer I know as to why there should be term limits. One of the Republican house members who is in danger of being ousted can only offer that his district will lose the benefit of his 26 years in the house. They really need to lose him!

Well that was fun … not. Next time I get a week off I would like there to be palm trees and white sand and surf crashing nearby. I’d like some tropical breezes and calypso music. And now that I have had a thorough rebuild on my back, I think I will soon be fit enough to enjoy something like that.
Yes indeed. I now have a full round of exercises I need to do as well as some groovy new adaptive equipment to get me through my day. And a lovely hourglass figure, compliments of my lovely lumbar corset.
I have other thoughts to add, but later …. it is time for my exercise.
