- Go to a second-hand store and buy a pair of men’s used work boots, a really big pair.
- Put them outside your front door on top of a copy of Guns and Ammo magazine.
- Put a dog dish beside it … a really, really big dish.
- Leave a note on your front door that says something like:
Bubba,
Big Mike and I have gone to get more ammo – back in 15 minutes.
Don’t disturb the Pitbulls. They’ve just been wormed and are not in a good mood.
Signed, Billy Bob

Spammers never cease to amaze me with the tricks they use to avoid mail filters. For a long time their trick was to add characters like % or to use zero in place of “o” in their subject lines. Now it seems they have a new one … pseudonyms. It would be funny if it weren’t so pathetic. The sad part is that some may get taken in by these scammers. But really, would you let someone create a logo for your business when their e-mail comes from Myron O. Knobby? Todays creative e-mailers include:
Brakeman H. Subplots;
Pasteuerizes U. Victim;
Unitarians C. Chorister; and
Determining L. Slayer
They are creative. I’ll give them that …

I’m just finishing Leslie Newbigin’s book (see title above) and have found it very interesting. In this book, Newbigin explores the relationship of Christian faith with society in our post-Enlightenment age. He raised a great question which I wish he had explored in depth. He observed that there were many differing societies in the ancient world, some of which were considered at the time to be very advanced. He mentioned China, Japan and India in particular. Yet it was only in the Christian west that the Enlightenment occurred. I plan to check out other authors who do explore this in more detail. It will be interesting to see what their take on the question might be. And I wonder if the enlightened west might be seeing the end of their age of dominance as they become more and more pagan in their national life? I think that statement could be considered true if applied to Europe. How will the “great” American experiment stand up to being in eclipse to what are now considered third world nations? Curious … I must read more.

So what is up with me? I am not able to sit long at the computer, so will make it a brief statement for those who wonder where I have gotten to. I finally had surgery on my back. Once recovered, I look forward to great improvement. I have been dealing with a herniated disk for some time and nothing seemed to help, thus the surgery. Everyone notices a big improvement in the way I am moving. I am just sore at this point. I am supposed to be spending most of my time sitting in a recliner. That is the best position to avoid strain. I will be off work about 6 weeks.
As I am able, I am trying to write some new documents for the new and improved Xisti site as well as work on things for Common Ground. It keeps me from total boredom.
That’s all I know today.
