One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, “I cannot accept money from you; I’m doing community service this week.” The florist was pleased and left the shop.
When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a “thank you” card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.
Later, a police officer came in for a haircut and, when he tried to pay his bill, the barber again replied, “I cannot accept money from you; I’m doing community service this week.” The officer was happy and left the shop.
The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a “thank you” card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.
A Congressman came in for a haircut and, when he went to pay his bill, the barber again replied, “I can not accept money from you; I’m doing community service this week.” The Congressman was very happy and left the shop.
The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen Congressmen lined up waiting for a free haircut. And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between the citizens of our country and the politicians who run it.
So funny I had to post it … originally appeared at humor@patriotpost.us
I am being challenged for possession of my patio … and not just me, but every gray squirrel that thinks they can step on it. The challenger is a little red squirrel who thinks ownership of the patio, along with every walnut that falls thereon, is his. He also thinks the small plot of grass inside the privacy fence is his and has mined it with caches of walnuts.
It’s funny watching those silly squirrels. The gray ones eat every walnut they can get their paw on and they are all looking a little portly. The little red one squirrels away nuts at a furious pace. I am thinking he will go into a den when the snow flies and feast the winter away. The grays will just have to keep looking for food. (I know they are active in winter because of their raids on my bird feeder.)
Whenever a gray tried to forage on the patio, the little red squirrel chases him off. Red will even tackle the gray, not deterred in the least that the grays are two to three times his size. When I go out there, he chatters at me, trying to scare me off. Silly animal.
There are 316,125 people in the U.S. with the first name Peggy.
Statistically the 196th most popular first name.
More than 99.9 percent of people with the first name Peggy are female.
There are 88,150 people in the U.S. with the last name Erickson.
Statistically the 379th most popular last name.
Interesting to note that:
They found it necessary to note that 99.9% of people named Peggy are female? What’s with that?
They had to put Margaret into the equation … I don’t know her, I never knew her and she and her name are in no way related to me …
Although this site claims their statistics come from US Census figures, I question their database, because the info on my name says there are more people named Erickson than what was reported for Steve. Census data should not change although their data might if it was based on site visits rather than census, although census sounds so much better. They have enough disclaimers about accuracy to choke a horse, so it is impossible to guess why the discrepancy.
I’ve been getting a bunch of gotchas from my ESV feed. Today’s doesn’t “get” me, but it does remind me anew that we have been given a commission which most of us fail. I’m repeating the verse here because it goes away tomorrow when a fresh gotcha will appear.
And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2.38)
Just a few verses further in the chapter we read that “So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls.” (Acts 2.41) I wonder how many souls will be added today?
But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. (Matthew 6:6, ESV)
